Welcoming | My Peace (As we return to our seats.) | Rev. Sara McCurdy |
Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. |

Life of the Church | Special Music | Elder Kay Chabot |
Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen |

* Call to Worship Leader: On Reformation Sunday, we remember the visionaries of our faith who have helped shape the church. People: We celebrate rights once denied Christian believers: the right to read the Bible in our own language., the right to sing hymns, the right to discuss our beliefs openly without fear. Leader: We remember the great reformers: those who led people of faith through dangerous times like John Calvin and Martin Luther, and John Knox and those who died for the religious tolerance we know enjoy like John Huss, William Tyndall, Anne Hutchinson, and Mary Dyer. People: We celebrate their dreams, their courage, their commitment and their sacrifice. On Reformation Sunday we remember the give thanks for the journey of our church as we humbly proclaim our mission. All: "We are a warm, open-minded, family of Christians seeking to reflect the joyful diversity of our place in the palm of God’s hand" (IS THIS PALM SPRINGS PRES.’S MISSION STATEMENT?) | Amazing Grace | #624 |
* Opening Hymn | Breathe on Me, Breath of God | Written by John Calvin |
Litany Prayer of Confession (unison) Leader: Grant, Almighty God, that as you urge us daily to repentance, and each of us is also stung with the consciousness of our own sins, People: O grant, that we may not grow stupid in our vices, nor deceive ourselves with empty flatteries, but that each of us may, on the contrary, carefully examine our own lives, and then with one mouth and heart confess that we are all guilty, and that no other relief remains for us but your infinite mercy, Leader: and that we may so seek to become receivers of that grace which has been offered to us by your Son, and is daily offered to us by the gospel, All: that, relying on him as our Mediator, we may not cease to entertain hope even in the midst of a thousand deaths, and we may be gathered unto that blessed life, which has been given to us by the blood of your only Son. Amen. | Trust in the Lord | Written by John Knox |
(A moment for silent reflection) | Psalm 90: 1-6, 13-17 (unison) | Hymn #623 |
Assurance of Forgiveness Leader: As we believe in one God, so do we believe that, from the beginning, there has been and now is and to the end of the world shall be one church…by faith in Jesus Christ. This church is catholic, that is universal, but it contains the elect of all ages, of all realms, of all tongues, invisible: know only to God. The message of the church is that we are called, saved and forgiven, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Friends Believe the Good News of the Gospel!
