As Jesus faces the tribunal, Peter is outside warming himself by the fire. When asked if he was a disciple of Jesus, he denies any involvement with the accused man. Jesus alone will carry the cross to Golgotha and be hanged on the garbage dump of the city. Little do we know that at that moment he will henceforth sanctify even the lowliest existence on the face of creation and bring hope to the most downtrodden among us.

Leader: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
People: Yet, you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
Leader: In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.
People: To you they cried, and were saved; in you they trusted, and were not put to shame.
Leader: Let us worship God!

Leader: Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, let us hold fast to our confession.

Leader: Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Leader: Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered and became the eternal salvation for all who obey him.

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
